The murder took place in New Haven County around 10 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29, in Waterbury on Newbury Street.

According to Lt. Ryan Bessette of the Waterbury Police, officers responded to Newbury Street for a medical assistance complaint.

When officers arrived on the scene they found a woman, identified as Shelley Stamp, age 34, lying unresponsive on the floor of her apartment, Bessette said.

Stamp was pronounced dead on the scene by medical personnel, police said.

Officers spoke with several family members who had not heard Stamp recently so they made arrangements to check on her and contacted police once they had located her as unresponsive in her apartment, Bessette said.

Bessette said an autopsy was conducted by the Office of Chief Medical Examiner’s Officer which indicated that further investigation was required regarding the cause of Stamp’s death.

An investigation was able to determine that Stamp had an altercation earlier in the day with two women identified as Heather Anderson, age 35 of Naugatuck, and Shannon Gritzbach, age 37, of Waterbury, Bessette said.

Investigators further determined that the altercation became physical causing Stamp to become injured and that both women stole credit cards from Stamp prior to leaving the scene and making several purchases with the stolen credit cards, police said.

Detectives obtained arrest warrants charging both Anderson and Gritzbach for the murder of Stamp along with additional offenses regarding the incident.

Anderson was arrested on Thursday, Nov. 3; Gritzbach was arrested on Monday, Nov. 7.

Both were charged with:

  • Murder
  • Conspiracy to commit home invasion
  • Robbery
  • Assault
  • Larceny
  • Illegal use of credit cards
  • Burglary

The two are being held on a $ 1 million bond.
